I prefer savory breakfasts—more like a midday meal—and La Garriga offers a selection of *montaditos* (small open-faced sandwiches) that are typical of Mallorca, just like me. The *paupetón* or *butifarra* versions are winners.
I like getting away from the city center and the most tourist-trodden areas; for years, Usera has been a culinary haven for me. While exploring the neighborhood's restaurants, I discovered Bamabao, where they blend their Chinese heritage with Andalusian roots with unique flair. Anything you order there will be delicious.
Madrid is a city completely open to innovation and quick to adapt to trends, yet it has always been defined by a classic, traditional style. I suppose that’s why there are so many restaurants with that kind of vibe. Urruti is the latest to open, but for me, it stands out thanks to their expertise and the way they handle their ingredients.
Without a doubt, Madrid also stands out for its bar counters—a social scene that feels incredibly spontaneous. You don’t have to pick just one spot; go on a bar crawl and visit as many as you can. When you stop by La Castela, you can’t leave without trying the tuna belly *timbal*
The truth is, I don’t drink coffee, so I don’t frequent coffee shops all that often, but these are a few places that, in my opinion, do things right and with good judgment in that regard. I’d highlight the café at the Juan March Foundation for its beautiful setting—both the indoor area for winter and the outdoor terrace.
Naveira Do Mar—though not quite as far from the center—is another great restaurant that flies under the radar
And although Del Diego isn’t a coffee shop but a classic cocktail bar, they will serve you coffee if you ask, and it’s a very pleasant place to spend time
